What Nextcloud does
Nextcloud is one of the most widely deployed open-source file sync and collaboration platforms in the world. It gives you a private cloud that replaces Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, Gmail and Google Docs — all running on your own ReefOffice server in the EU, with zero telemetry and no third-party access.

Calendar & contacts
Shared team calendar with CalDAV support — compatible with Apple Calendar, Thunderbird, Outlook, and any CalDAV client. Contacts use CardDAV.
Collaborative documents
Create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations in your browser using Collabora Online. Real-time multi-user editing, same as Google Docs.
Connect any existing mailbox — read, send and organise email from inside Nextcloud, with full IMAP support.
Chat & video
Built-in team chat and video calls via Nextcloud Talk. No separate account needed — every team member is already connected.

How it's deployed
Native NixOS service, not a shared container
Nextcloud runs as a native NixOS service on your own VM — not a shared Docker container. Backed by PostgreSQL and Redis. Collabora CODE enables browser-based document editing. SSO through Authentik (OIDC) means one login works for everything. The full NixOS config is declarative and reproducible, so every deployment is identical and easy to roll back.
Integrated with the reef
Nextcloud is the data layer your whole workspace depends on. Paperless stores its documents in Nextcloud folders. Your CRM attachments live here. Automation recipes watch Nextcloud folders to trigger workflows. Backups capture everything, encrypted, before they leave your server.
Common questions
Can I use the Nextcloud mobile app? +
Yes. Nextcloud has official mobile apps for iOS and Android. Connect to your server URL, and your files, calendar, contacts and Talk messages are all available on the go.
Can I share files with people who don't have a ReefOffice account? +
Yes. You can create public share links with optional password protection and expiration dates. All file transfers happen directly from your server — files never pass through a third party.
Can I migrate from Google Drive, Dropbox or another cloud? +
